Waney Lap Fence Panels
Waney lap fence panels are a traditional and affordable choice for garden boundaries, replacement fencing and longer fence runs. Their horizontal overlapping boards create a solid screen, making them suitable for rear gardens, side boundaries and general privacy fencing.
East Coast Fencing manufactures pressure treated waney lap fence panels in-house, with a choice of popular heights and brown or green treated finishes. All panels are supplied in a standard 6ft width for use with common timber and concrete fencing systems.
Pressure Treated Waney Lap Panels
All of our waney lap fence panels are pressure treated for outdoor use, helping protect the timber against rot and fungal decay. The treatment penetrates the wood more deeply than a surface coating, making the panels better suited to long-term use outdoors.
Brown treated panels provide a darker, more traditional appearance, while green or natural treated panels have a lighter timber finish. Both colours will gradually weather after installation, and variations in grain, knots and shade are normal features of timber.
Waney Lap Fence Panel Heights
Our waney lap panels are available in a range of heights to suit different parts of the garden. Lower 3ft and 4ft fence panels work well for front gardens, internal boundaries and areas where a more open feel is preferred.
5ft fence panels provide stronger screening without reaching full height, while 5ft 6in and 6ft fence panels are better suited to rear gardens and boundaries where privacy is the main priority.
Waney Lap Fence Panels for Garden Privacy
The overlapping horizontal boards create a solid face with no deliberate gaps, helping reduce direct views through the boundary. Taller waney lap panels provide practical privacy around patios, seating areas and rear gardens while remaining a more budget-friendly option than heavier panel styles.
The finished height of the fence will also depend on any gravel board fitted below the panel. Include the gravel board and any trellis topper when planning the total boundary height.
Fence Posts and Gravel Boards
Waney lap panels can be installed with wooden fence posts or concrete fence posts. Timber posts create a consistent wooden finish, while slotted concrete posts provide a strong, low-maintenance support system.
Wooden or concrete gravel boards help keep the bottom of the panel raised away from damp soil and garden debris. Choose posts and gravel boards that suit the panel width, height and intended fencing system.
Waney Lap or Closeboard Fence Panels?
Waney lap panels use overlapping horizontal boards and are generally chosen as a practical, lower-cost option for everyday garden fencing. Their lighter construction makes them a popular choice for replacement panels and longer boundary runs.
Closeboard fence panels use vertical feather edge boards and have a heavier, more substantial construction. They are usually preferred where greater strength and a more robust traditional finish are the main priorities.
