Fan Trellis
Fan trellis provides a decorative way to support climbing plants and add shape to garden walls, fences and planted areas. Its widening design gives plants room to spread as they grow, making it a practical choice for patios, borders and smaller garden features.
East Coast Fencing manufactures pressure treated wooden fan trellis in-house using rough sawn trellis batten. The range includes 1.83m-wide panels in 0.9m and 1.2m heights, with brown and green or natural treated finishes available.
Wooden Fan Trellis Panels
Wooden fan trellis has a simple open structure that works well against garden walls, sheds and solid fence panels. The shape creates a decorative feature even before planting becomes established, while the timber battens provide support for climbing stems.
Fan trellis is particularly useful where a full rectangular trellis panel would feel too large or formal. It can be used individually or repeated along a wall to create a consistent planting feature.
Fan Trellis for Climbing Plants
The spreading shape makes fan trellis suitable for climbing and trailing plants that need support as they grow. It can be positioned behind planted borders, containers and patio beds to help guide growth upwards and across the wall or fence.
The open design allows light and airflow around the plants while providing clear fixing points for stems. The final level of coverage will depend on the plant variety, growth rate and position in the garden.
0.9m and 1.2m Fan Trellis
The 0.9m fan trellis provides a compact option for lower walls, containers and smaller planted areas. It adds height without overwhelming the surrounding garden.
The 1.2m version gives plants more room to spread and creates a taller decorative feature. Both sizes are 1.83m wide, so the main choice is the amount of height and planting support required.
Brown and Green Fan Trellis
Brown pressure treated fan trellis has a darker appearance that works well with established fencing, sheds and traditional garden settings. Green or natural treated trellis provides a lighter timber finish that gradually weathers outdoors.
Both finishes are pressure treated to help protect the timber against rot and fungal decay. Variations in grain, knots and colour are normal features of natural timber.
Fan Trellis or Rectangular Trellis?
Fan trellis is best suited to individual planting features and areas where a shaped decorative support is preferred. Its widening form works particularly well behind a single climbing plant or a group of containers.
For wider screening or continuous boundary coverage, consider traditional trellis, diamond trellis or privacy square trellis. These rectangular panels are better suited to longer walls, fence runs and garden divisions.
