How this feather edge fence calculator works
This calculator estimates the main materials needed for a feather edge fence run. It works from a 2.4m bay layout and uses feather edge boards that are 125mm wide with a 25mm overlap. That gives 100mm of coverage per board.
The total fence length is divided into 2.4m bays. The calculator then allows one more wooden post than the number of bays. MOT rails are calculated per bay, with 2 rails per bay for lower fencing and 3 rails per bay for 5ft and 6ft fencing.
How many feather edge boards do I need?
Each feather edge board gives 100mm of effective coverage once the 25mm overlap is allowed for. To estimate the number of boards, the calculator converts the fence run into millimetres, divides it by 100mm, and rounds up to the next whole board.
How many posts and rails do I need?
