The 6ft x 4ft Waney Lap Fence Panel - Pressure Treated Brown provides more screening than a 3ft panel without creating the enclosed feel of a full-height 6ft fence. At 1830mm wide, 1200mm high and approximately 40mm deep, it follows the traditional UK 6ft panel width and is well suited to ordinary garden bays where a mid-height overlap panel is required.

East Coast Fencing manufactures the panel from sawn waney-edge boards that are generally spruce, although the timber mix can vary. The lap boards are specified at around 125mm wide by 4.7mm thick and overlap by approximately 25–40mm. This overlapping arrangement gives the panel its continuous timber face while keeping material use economical. As the timber is sawn rather than planed, natural waney edges, knots, differences in colour and small changes in dimension should be expected.

Four vertical supports are fitted to the front and four to the back. The front face also has 75 x 16mm horizontal boards at the top and bottom, while a 16 x 45mm capping strip finishes the top edge. All components are pressure treated before assembly and secured using galvanised ring-shank nails. The two support layers, the lap boards and the slight angle created by their overlap account for the finished depth of roughly 40mm.

A 4ft panel is often chosen when the boundary needs more definition than a low decorative fence but you still want light and views above it. The front and rear faces look different, so orientate the panel consistently along a run. Its 1830mm width is made to suit conventional UK panel spacing, but measure replacement bays carefully, especially where old posts may have moved. It can be paired with appropriate wooden fence posts or concrete fence posts.

Keeping the bottom timber away from wet ground is worthwhile, particularly on planted boundaries. A suitable gravel board creates that separation and also gives the run a cleaner lower line. For alternative heights using the same traditional overlap construction, see our complete waney lap fence panels range.
