The 6ft x 5ft Waney Lap Fence Panel - Pressure Treated Green/Natural is intended for garden boundaries where privacy is important but a full 1800mm panel is not required. It measures 1830mm wide by 1500mm high, with an overall depth of approximately 40mm. The width is a genuine traditional UK 6ft panel size, which is particularly useful when replacing older 6ft-wide panels rather than working around narrower metric imports.

We manufacture the panel at East Coast Fencing from sawn waney-edge boards. Spruce is generally used, although the timber mix can vary. The lap boards are nominally about 125 x 4.7mm and are installed with approximately 25–40mm overlap. Sawn timber is naturally variable, so customers should expect knots, irregular waney edges, differences in colour and small dimensional changes as the wood gains and loses moisture. Those characteristics are normal for this style of fencing.

The panel has four vertical supports on the front and four on the rear. The front face also includes 75 x 16mm horizontal boards at the upper and lower edges, with a 16 x 45mm capping strip completing the top. Every timber component is pressure treated before assembly and the panel is put together with galvanised ring-shank nails. The finished 40mm depth comes from the support layers plus the overlapped boards, which sit at a slight angle rather than completely flat.

The two faces are not visually identical, so orientate each panel the same way if appearance along the run matters. At 1500mm high, careful post alignment becomes more noticeable than with a low panel because any lean shows across a larger surface. Suitable wooden fence posts give an all-timber finish, while compatible concrete fence posts are another option for a panel-and-gravel-board system.

Keep the bottom of the panel clear of direct soil contact where possible. A correctly fitted gravel board can provide that separation and becomes the component closest to ground moisture. If you need slightly more screening without moving to the full 6ft panel, compare this size with the 5ft 6in version in our waney lap fence panels range.
