The 6ft x 5ft 6in Waney Lap Fence Panel - Pressure Treated Green/Natural offers a useful intermediate height for boundaries that need strong screening without going all the way to 6ft. Its dimensions are 1830mm wide by 1650mm high, with an overall depth of about 40mm. The 1830mm width is the traditional UK 6ft panel size rather than a 1.8m metric substitute, which can make matching conventional UK bays more straightforward.

This panel is manufactured by East Coast Fencing from sawn waney-edge boards, usually spruce although a mixed timber content is possible. Individual boards are nominally around 125 x 4.7mm and overlap by approximately 25–40mm. The green/natural pressure treatment leaves the character of the sawn timber clearly visible. Expect knots, changes in colour, uneven natural board edges and slight dimensional movement rather than the uniformity of a machined decorative panel.

Four vertical supports are fitted to the front and another four to the back. Across the front face, 75 x 16mm horizontal timbers run along the top and bottom, with 16 x 45mm capping above. All of these components are pressure treated before assembly, then fixed together using galvanised ring-shank nails. The overlap angle of the thin waney boards, combined with the support layers, brings the completed panel to approximately 40mm thick.

The 1650mm height is particularly useful when a 5ft panel does not provide enough separation but you still want a small reduction from a full-height 6ft fence. As panels get taller, straight posts and sound installation become increasingly important because misalignment is more visible and the panel presents a larger area to wind. Use compatible fence posts and assess exposure and ground conditions when planning the support arrangement.

A suitable gravel board can keep the panel base away from wet soil and makes it easier to maintain a consistent lower line. The front and back faces differ, so decide on orientation before the run is assembled. For neighbouring heights and treatment colours, see the full waney lap fence panels range or use our fence panel selector if you are still comparing panel styles.
