The 6ft x 6ft Waney Lap Fence Panel - Pressure Treated Green/Natural provides full-height screening in the traditional overlap style. At 1830mm wide by 1800mm high and roughly 40mm thick, it is manufactured to the established UK 6ft panel width rather than a 1.8m metric width. That distinction matters on replacement work because many existing UK fences were set out around 6ft panels, although the actual opening should still be measured before ordering.

We manufacture this panel at East Coast Fencing using sawn waney-edge boards, normally spruce but with other timber sometimes mixed in. The boards are nominally about 125mm wide and 4.7mm thick, laid horizontally with approximately 25–40mm overlap. The result is continuous screening using a deliberately economical construction. Sawn timber is not visually uniform, so knots, natural waney edges, shade variation and small dimensional changes are all normal characteristics.

There are four vertical support battens on the front face and four on the rear. The front also has 75 x 16mm horizontal timbers at the top and bottom, with a 16 x 45mm capping strip along the upper edge. All timber is pressure treated before the components are assembled, and galvanised ring-shank nails are used throughout. Because the overlapping slats sit at an angle between support layers, the overall depth is approximately 40mm rather than simply the sum of the board thicknesses.

This panel has a visibly different front and back, so orientation should be decided before installation and kept consistent along the run. At full height, sound post selection and accurate setting out are particularly important. Suitable wooden fence posts give a completely timber-based appearance, while compatible concrete fence posts can be used where a slotted concrete system is preferred. Site exposure and ground conditions should influence the final post and fixing choice.

Use a gravel board where you want to separate the panel from wet soil and reduce repeated moisture exposure at its lower edge. This 1800mm version is the choice for the greatest privacy in the range. If less screening is needed, compare the 3ft, 4ft, 5ft and 5ft 6in options in our waney lap fence panels range rather than cutting down a full-height panel.
