The 6ft x 5ft Waney Lap Fence Panel - Pressure Treated Brown gives a substantial level of screening while remaining lower than the full 6ft version. The panel measures 1830mm wide by 1500mm high and approximately 40mm deep. Its true 6ft width is made around the traditional UK fence-panel format, so it is suitable for standard-width new bays and many like-for-like replacement jobs once the existing opening has been measured.

East Coast Fencing manufactures this panel from sawn waney-edge timber, generally spruce but with mixed timber possible. The overlapping boards are specified at roughly 125mm wide and 4.7mm thick, with around 25–40mm overlap. Waney lap is intentionally an economical construction, so the boards are not machined to a completely uniform decorative finish. Natural edge shape, knots, colour variation and minor dimensional movement are expected characteristics of the timber.

Each face has four vertical supports. On the front, a 75 x 16mm horizontal board is also fitted at the top and bottom, and the panel is finished with 16 x 45mm capping. All timber parts are pressure treated before the panel is assembled, and galvanised ring-shank nails provide the mechanical fixings. The supports on both faces, combined with the overlapped slats and their angle, produce the overall depth of about 40mm. The front and back consequently have different appearances.

At 5ft high, the panel provides more seclusion than the 3ft and 4ft sizes but still leaves an extra 300mm compared with a 6ft panel. That can be useful where you want privacy around seating, paths or side gardens without taking the fence to maximum height. Taller panels also present more surface area to the wind, so post condition, setting and site exposure matter increasingly as height rises. Choose appropriate fence posts for the installation rather than treating every existing post as automatically suitable.

A gravel board beneath the panel is a practical way to keep the bottom edge away from soil and repeated damp. When replacing existing fencing, check both the 1830mm panel width and the available height before ordering. Other height choices can be compared in our waney lap fence panels range, alongside other fence panels if a heavier or more decorative construction would suit the boundary better.
