The 6ft x 5ft 6in Waney Lap Fence Panel - Pressure Treated Brown sits between the 5ft and 6ft versions, giving near-full privacy without using the tallest panel in the range. It is 1830mm wide, 1650mm high and approximately 40mm deep. That 1830mm width corresponds to the traditional UK 6ft panel format, making this size useful where the fence bay follows conventional UK spacing but the required height is 5ft 6in.

East Coast Fencing manufactures the panel using sawn waney-edge timber, generally spruce although other timber can be mixed in. The horizontal lap boards are specified at around 125mm wide by 4.7mm thick and overlap by roughly 25–40mm. Because the boards are sawn and retain natural edges, exact dimensions and appearance vary. Knots, colour differences, irregular waney edges and minor movement are expected in normal service.

Construction is deliberately economical rather than heavy-duty. Four vertical support battens are fitted to each face, while the front additionally has a 75 x 16mm horizontal board across both the top and bottom. The upper edge is capped with a 16 x 45mm piece. All timber components are pressure treated before assembly and joined using galvanised ring-shank nails. The support layers and angled overlapping slats together create the roughly 40mm panel depth.

At 1650mm high, this panel is a useful choice when 1500mm leaves more visibility than wanted but 1800mm is unnecessary. It also gives a different finished height when used above a gravel board, so consider the complete fence assembly rather than looking at panel height alone. Appropriate gravel boards can help keep the timber clear of the ground, and the selected fence posts should suit both the final height and the conditions on site.

The front and rear faces look different because of the support arrangement, so keep panel orientation consistent down the boundary. Measure existing bays before replacing old fencing even though the panel is made to the traditional 1830mm UK width. The 5ft, 5ft 6in and 6ft alternatives can all be compared within our waney lap fence panels range.
