This 6ft x 6ft Ultra Heavy Duty Closeboard Fence Panel is the full-height option when you want maximum privacy and a proper boundary line. It’s the standard choice for rear gardens and exposed side runs where you want to block views, cut down on draughts, and make the space feel more enclosed. We make these panels in-house using a traditional feather edge closeboard build, with overlapping boards that give a solid, consistent look along the fence.
At 6ft high, support is everything. This Ultra panel is built with five 75 x 32mm backing rails, and the feather edge boards are nailed through to each rail. That extra rail makes a difference you can feel. It increases stiffness across the height, supports the boards at more points, and helps reduce flex between rails. In real garden conditions, that can mean a fence run that stays flatter and looks straighter as it goes through wet, dry, and windy spells.
The panel is unframed, so it’s straightforward to fit between posts and gives a clean edge in each bay. Unframed panels also make it easier to keep spacing consistent, especially if you are working along a long run or stepping the fence to follow changing ground levels. The top edge is finished with a weather capping strip to help shed rain away from the boards and reduce water sitting on the timber at the top edge.
All timber is pressure treated, with the familiar green finish seen on treated fencing. Pressure treatment gives protection through the section, but the way you fit the panel still matters. Keep the bottom edge off the ground and avoid letting soil or gravel build up against the boards. If you cut the panel down to suit a tight bay or an awkward corner, treat any fresh cut ends with a suitable end-grain preservative so protection stays consistent where the timber is newly exposed.
For full-height fencing, a gravel board is often worth adding. It helps protect the lower edge from splashback, keeps timber away from damp ground, and gives a crisp line along the base of the fence. Posts play a big part in how a 6ft fence feels. Set posts straight, at consistent centres, and deep enough for the height and exposure.
