This 6ft x 6ft Closeboard Fence Panel is the full-height choice when privacy matters most. It’s commonly used on rear boundaries and exposed side runs to screen views and give the garden a more enclosed, sheltered feel. If you’re replacing older fencing, 6ft is often the height that brings a run back to a clean, consistent boundary line.
We make these fence panels in-house using a traditional feather edge closeboard build. The face uses 18 feather edge boards at 125mm wide, overlapped and nailed onto 75 x 32mm backing rails. On this 6ft panel we use four rails. That extra support is important at full height, as it helps reduce flex and keeps the boards held more evenly from top to bottom, especially when the fence is taking wind across a long run.
The panel is unframed, which keeps fitting straightforward between posts and gives a clean edge in each bay. Unframed panels also make it easier to keep gaps consistent along a run without bulky side members. The top edge is finished with a weather capping strip to help shed rain and reduce water sitting on the top of the boards.
All timber is pressure treated in brown. Treatment helps protect the timber through the section, but fitting details still make a big difference at 6ft. Keep the bottom edge off the ground and avoid soil building up against the boards. If levels vary, step the run rather than forcing panels down into the ground at one end. If you cut a panel to suit a tight bay, treat fresh cut ends with a suitable end-grain preservative.
