The 6FT x 4FT Ultra Heavy Duty Closeboard Fence Panel - Pressure Treated Brown is the extra-support version of our 4ft closeboard panel, manufactured in-house by East Coast Fencing for mid-height garden boundaries, side passages, patio screening and divisions around working areas such as bins or vegetable plots where some screening is wanted without the enclosure of a full-height fence. It measures 1830mm wide by 1200mm high with a listed depth of 45mm. The overlapping feather edge construction provides the traditional closeboard appearance, but the Ultra specification is aimed at customers who want more rail support through the height of the panel.

At 1.2m high, the Ultra specification creates four horizontal fixing lines instead of the three used on the standard panel. This height is often used around patios, utility areas and side boundaries, where a solid screen may also see regular contact from bins, tools or garden maintenance. The additional rail is therefore a practical construction choice for buyers who want more support without increasing the fence height itself.

This Ultra Heavy Duty panel uses 4 75 x 32mm backing rails, compared with 3 rails on our standard 4ft closeboard panel. The feather edge boards are fixed across those rails, so the additional support point reduce the unsupported span between fixings and make the panel stiffer as a complete unit. That is the practical reason to choose Ultra: not a different decorative style, but a more heavily supported version of the same closeboard principle. The panel remains unframed and is finished with weather capping along the top edge.

The timber is pressure treated and supplied in brown. For customers comparing the two treatment colours, the brown finish gives the darker initial appearance while the construction specification is what determines the standard-versus-Ultra difference. Use the closeboard fence panels category to compare the standard and Ultra versions at the same height rather than assuming that every closeboard panel has the same number of rails.

Before fixing, establish a straight top line and a consistent base. On changing ground levels, planned steps from bay to bay generally look cleaner than letting the bottom edge touch the ground at one side. On an Ultra panel, the extra rails do not remove the need for a properly built supporting fence. Pair the panel with suitable fence posts, keep posts plumb, and check the actual bay before fitting. On longer or more exposed runs, consistent post spacing and a straight base line are just as important as the panel specification itself.

Keep the bottom of the timber panel away from persistent ground moisture. A gravel board can take the low-level contact and splashback that would otherwise reach the feather edge boards, while also giving the panels a consistent line to sit above. If the panel needs to be reduced in width for a non-standard opening, cut carefully and re-treat fresh timber surfaces after trimming. Choose this Ultra version when the additional rail support is a meaningful benefit for the boundary, rather than simply because it carries a heavier-duty name.
