This 6ft x 2ft Closeboard Fence Panel is a tidy, low-height option for marking out boundaries without making the garden feel closed in. At 2ft tall it’s well suited to front gardens, borders along paths, low dividing runs, or topping walls where you want a smart finish that still lets plenty of light through. It keeps the traditional closeboard look, just in a more subtle height that works nicely in smaller spaces.

We make these fencing panels in-house using a straightforward feather edge build. The face is made from 18 feather edge boards, each 125mm wide, fixed with nails onto 75 x 32mm backing rails. This 6ft x 2ft size uses three rails, which gives the boards good support across the height of the panel. That extra support helps the panel feel firm in the hand and helps it stay looking straight once fitted in a run, especially where the fence is likely to get knocked by bins, bikes, or routine garden jobs.

The panel is unframed, so it’s easy to fit between posts and keeps the edges clean and neat. Unframed panels also make it simpler to get a consistent line along walls or in tighter bays where framed panels can feel bulky. The top edge is finished with a weather capping strip. That cap helps shed rain away from the top of the boards and reduces water sitting on the timber, which is one of the areas that tends to take the most wear over time.

All timber is pressure treated, with the familiar green finish seen on treated fencing. Pressure treatment helps protect the timber through the section, but the way you fit it still matters. Keep the bottom edge off the ground, and avoid letting soil or gravel build up against the boards. If you trim the panel to suit an awkward opening, treat any fresh cut ends with a suitable end-grain preservative so protection stays consistent where the timber is newly exposed.

A gravel board can be a useful addition even on a low fence. It helps protect the lower edge from splashback and gives you a straighter, cleaner base line along the run, especially if the ground isn’t perfectly level. If you’re planning that sort of finish, browse our gravel boards range, including wooden gravel boards for an all-timber look or concrete gravel boards where you want the most robust separation from damp ground.

Even with a 2ft panel, posts make a difference to how tidy the fence looks. Keep bays consistent, allow a small clearance so the panel drops in without forcing it, and set posts straight for the cleanest finish. For suitable options, see our fence posts range, including wooden fence posts and concrete fence posts.

Installed level with a small ground clearance, this 6ft x 2ft closeboard panel gives a smart, traditional boundary line that’s practical for everyday garden use and easy to match across a full run.
