This 3.0m x 75mm x 75mm wooden fence post is a long-length option where you want extra depth in the ground but prefer the slimmer look of a 75mm square post. It is commonly used for lighter fencing, trellis and garden structures, especially on sloping sites or where a shorter post would not give enough embedment. It is pressure treated and finished in brown for outdoor use.

With a 3.0m length, you can set deeper for stability, which is often the key on softer ground. As a guide, aim to bury at least a third of the post, then adjust for exposure and soil type. The deeper you can set it, the less likely it is to rock or work loose over time, particularly on long straight runs.

Plan your fence line before you dig. Mark the run, check your centres, and use a string line to keep posts straight. Longer posts can be harder to keep steady while you set them, so take your time checking plumb on two faces as you backfill or concrete. If concreting, leave enough room for a decent collar and finish the top so rainwater runs away from the timber.

The 75mm section is best suited to lighter-duty builds where a chunky post is not needed. It works well with trellis panels and lighter panel styles, and it is useful for internal garden dividers and landscaping features. For heavy panels or gate hanging, a larger post section is usually a better match.

If you need to trim the post, treat any fresh cut end grain before fitting. For a cleaner base and to help protect panels from splashback and damp, gravel boards are often used where the design allows. Choosing the right cement products for your ground conditions will help you get a straight, stable result.
