This 2.4m x 100mm x 100mm timber fence post is a good choice when standard lengths are not enough. The extra length is useful for taller fencing, deeper setting in poor ground, or where the fence line sits on a slope and you want more post below ground. It has a 100mm square section for strong fixing and a stable finished feel. It is pressure treated and finished in green for outdoor use.

In most fence builds, the strength comes from the part you do not see. A simple guide is to set at least a third of the post into the ground, then adjust based on soil and exposure. On windy boundaries or looser soils, a deeper hole and a wider concrete collar can help stop movement. Keep the base of the hole firm so the post does not settle later.

Take time with the layout before you start digging. Mark your line, check your panel widths, and plan where corners and ends land. As you install each post, check it for plumb on two faces. If you are concreting, support the post while the mix firms up and finish the top of the concrete so it slopes away from the post to encourage water run-off.

The 100mm section is a sensible match for many timber fence panels and is often chosen where extra rigidity is useful, such as corners, returns and long runs. It also works well for rail fencing where you need a bit more fixing area. For gate hanging, you will usually want a heavier duty post, but for most panel installations this size is a reliable standard.

If you cut the post to suit your fence height, protect the fresh cut with an end grain preservative. You may also want to pair the fence line with gravel boards to keep panels up off wet ground. For setting, choose cement products that suit your method and ground conditions to help achieve a straight, secure finish.
