Do not assume they are direct replacements. Our standard 6 inch concrete and 1.83m wooden gravel boards are both 150mm high and 1.83m long, but the concrete board is approximately 45 to 55mm deep while the timber board is 22mm thick and uses a different supporting arrangement.
Do not assume that a wooden and concrete gravel board are direct drop-in replacements simply because their face dimensions match.
Our 6 Inch Smooth Concrete Gravel Board measures 1.83m long by 150mm high and approximately 45 to 55mm deep. It is steel reinforced, vibration finished and designed around compatible slotted concrete-post fencing.
The equivalent 1.83m Wooden Gravel Board is also 150mm high and 1.83m long, but it is only 22mm thick. It is a pressure-treated timber component intended for compatible timber fencing and can be fixed between wooden posts.
The matching length and height mean either product can provide a 150mm base beneath a standard-width fence panel, but their thickness and the way they are supported are materially different. An existing fence designed around a concrete board should therefore not be assumed to accept the much thinner timber board without checking how it would actually be retained.
This distinction is particularly important during repairs. Identify the existing posts and gravel-board support method as well as measuring the board itself before changing materials. Compare both types under gravel boards where the complete fencing system is being reconsidered.
