Can concrete gravel boards be installed on a sloping boundary?

Quick Answer

Yes. Our concrete gravel board guidance recommends stepping the rigid boards from one bay to the next on a slope rather than trying to make each board follow the gradient.

Yes. Concrete gravel boards can be used where the fence line slopes, but the boards are normally stepped from bay to bay rather than angled to follow the gradient.

Our standard 6 Inch Smooth Concrete Gravel Board is a rigid 1.83m-long board measuring 150mm high. The 12 Inch Smooth Concrete Gravel Board has the same 1.83m length but is 305mm high.

On a slope, each board can therefore remain level within its individual bay while the next bay starts at a different level. The amount of visible step depends on how the fence line has been set out rather than the board bending or being made to follow the ground.

The chosen gravel board height also affects the panel above it. A 305mm board creates a taller concrete base than a 150mm board, so those dimensions need to be considered when planning the stepped levels along the boundary.

Our concrete gravel boards are designed around compatible slotted concrete-post fencing, making the board and post positions part of the same stepped layout.
