Can East Coast Fencing concrete gravel boards be cut to fit a shorter fence bay?

Quick Answer

Concrete gravel boards are not intended to be casually trimmed to correct a short fence bay. Our standard concrete boards are 1.83m long, so accurate bay measurement and post spacing are important before installation.

Our concrete gravel boards are not intended to be casually trimmed on site to compensate for a fence bay that has been set too narrow. The standard boards are 1.83m long, so the post positions should be planned around the actual board and panel dimensions.

This applies particularly when replacing part of an existing concrete fencing system. Before ordering a concrete gravel board, measure the clear bay width and check the height and profile of the existing board. A rebated board, for example, is not automatically interchangeable with a smooth or recessed board simply because the length is the same.

Concrete is significantly less convenient to alter than timber. The product guidance therefore emphasises accurate setting out rather than relying on cutting to correct incorrectly positioned posts.

If the project genuinely requires a gravel board that can be shortened around a non-standard timber bay, wooden gravel boards are the more adaptable option. Our longer timber boards are specifically intended to be measured and cut around the actual post spacing, with freshly exposed cut ends re-treated before installation.
