The distinction between 1.828m and 1.8m is only 28mm, but it can matter when replacing a panel between existing posts. Many decorative panels are produced to a 1.8m metric format. Putting a 1.8m panel into a bay that was set out for a traditional 6ft panel can leave more clearance than expected and may require the installation to be adjusted.

A true 6ft specification still does not mean every existing fence bay will measure exactly 1.828m. Old posts can move, previous installers may have allowed different clearances, and individual bays can vary along the same boundary.
