Our traditional square trellis and privacy square trellis are manufactured in-house from pressure-treated 16 x 38mm rough-sawn battens. Our horizontal slatted and fan trellis products are also described as using pressure-treated rough-sawn trellis timber.
Because the timber is intentionally rough sawn rather than smooth planed, individual battens can show saw texture, knots, grain changes and natural surface variation. The pressure treatment also does not create a perfectly uniform decorative coating, so treatment shade can differ between pieces and change as the timber weathers.
This finish should not be confused with our imported contemporary decorative fence panels. Double Slatted, Horizontal Hit and Miss and Omega panels are specified with a semi-planed finish, giving those products a cleaner surface than our rough-sawn in-house trellis.
The difference is therefore part of the product specification. Customers wanting trellis should expect fencing-grade natural timber character rather than the surface finish of planed indoor joinery.
