Privacy square trellis gives more screening than traditional square trellis because the openings are much smaller. Our privacy square panels use openings of approximately 50mm, while our traditional square trellis uses openings of approximately 100mm.
That difference changes how the panels feel in a garden. The closer 50mm pattern breaks up views more effectively and provides a denser timber framework, making privacy square trellis more suitable where partial screening is the priority. It still remains an open trellis rather than a solid fence panel, so light and some visibility continue through the squares.
Traditional square trellis is deliberately more open. The approximately 100mm squares allow more light and clearer views through the panel, which suits climbing plants, decorative boundaries and areas where the aim is to support planting without creating a heavy screen.
The comparison is consistent across equivalent sizes. For example, the 1.83m x 1.5m privacy square panel uses the closer approximately 50mm pattern, while the traditional version at the same overall size uses approximately 100mm openings.
Choose between them based on the amount of openness you want rather than the panel dimensions alone. Both styles are pressure treated for outdoor use and are available in a range of heights, including sizes suitable for full screens and shallower fence-top sections.
