Hit and miss panels place horizontal slats alternately on opposite faces of the frame. The staggered boards interrupt direct views through the panel while leaving openings within the construction for air to pass through.
Hit and miss fencing gets its balance of screening and airflow from the way the boards are staggered on opposite sides of the frame. Instead of forming one completely solid timber face, the horizontal slats alternate between the front and rear.
Our Horizontal Hit & Miss panels use a 45 x 45mm semi-planed timber frame with 100 x 5mm grooved horizontal slats. Because a slat on one face covers much of the gap that would otherwise be visible through the opposite face, direct sight lines are reduced. At the same time, the construction still contains openings, so air can move through the fence more readily than through a fully solid panel.
This does not make hit and miss fencing completely private. Small viewing angles and openings remain part of the design. The useful distinction is that it provides substantial screening without creating the same continuous timber barrier as closeboard or another solid-faced panel.
