Choose wooden posts for a pressure-treated all-timber system that is straightforward to cut, drill and fix into. Choose concrete posts for a slotted, steel-reinforced system that avoids timber-style ground-line rot.
Neither material is the automatic choice for every fence. Our wooden fence posts and concrete fence posts create two different types of panel-fencing system.
Wooden posts are pressure treated and provide a natural timber finish. Our range includes 75 x 75mm and 100 x 100mm sections, and timber can be cut, drilled and fixed into when building a panel fence, trellis screen or traditional timber boundary.
Concrete posts use a slotted system. They are wet cast with internal steel reinforcement and are unaffected by timber-style ground-line rot. Intermediate, end, corner and 3-way profiles are available so the slot arrangement can follow straight sections, terminations, corners and junctions. They are commonly combined with concrete gravel boards.
There is also a substantial handling difference. Our 2.4m x 100 x 100mm wooden post is listed at 17kg, while an 8ft, or 2.4m, concrete intermediate post is listed at 45kg.
Choose timber where an all-wood appearance and straightforward cutting and fixing are priorities. Choose concrete where a slotted panel-and-gravel-board system and a non-timber post at ground level are more important.
