Our 600mm, 900mm and 1200mm picket fence panels are all 1830mm wide and use 13 timber pales, each 75mm wide, fixed across two 75 x 32mm backrails. The gaps between the pales are approximately 70mm.
That means the 4ft panel gives the boundary more height and visual presence than the 2ft or 3ft versions, but views can still pass through the repeated openings. The 4ft point-top picket panel, for example, is 1200mm high while retaining the same open 13-pale arrangement.
If the purpose of increasing the height is to obtain a largely closed visual screen, a solid-boarded panel style is more appropriate. Choose a taller picket panel when additional boundary height is wanted while deliberately keeping the characteristic open picket layout.
