Choose a wooden gravel board when easy cutting, simpler handling and an all-timber appearance are priorities. Concrete is worth comparing where the base faces persistent moisture or frequent low-level knocks.
A wooden gravel board is particularly useful where you want an all-timber fence, need to adjust the board length on site or prefer a component that is easier to handle than concrete.
Our wooden gravel boards are pressure treated and can be cut around the measured post spacing. Longer 2.4m and 3.0m versions are especially useful for site-built fencing where the bays are not fixed to a standard 1.83m panel width. The timber appearance also coordinates naturally with wooden posts, rails and feather edge boards.
Concrete gravel boards provide a non-timber base beneath the fence panel. Our standard concrete boards are steel reinforced and vibration finished. They are less adaptable to cutting, but they avoid placing timber at the lowest part of the fence where prolonged damp and repeated garden-level contact can occur.
Neither material is automatically the right choice for every fence. Choose timber where flexibility, handling and appearance matter most.
