For a bespoke open boundary, the 1.2m x 75x19mm Point Top Picket Pale - Pressure Treated Green/Natural provides a 1.2m-long, 75 x 19mm timber component that can be spaced and fixed individually rather than relying on a pre-built panel. Its point top makes the shape of each pale visible, so the finished fence has a clear repeating profile as well as an open structure.
The extra 300mm compared with a 0.9m pale gives the boundary more presence while retaining the gaps that define picket fencing. It is useful when a low decorative fence would feel too slight but a solid panel would block more light and visibility than wanted.
This version has a green/natural pressure treatment rather than a brown finish. The treatment is intended for outdoor protection, not to create a uniform decorative coating, so normal differences in grain, knots, treatment marks and colour are part of the timber.
Plan the run around sound posts and horizontal rails before setting the pales. A consistent spacer helps keep the gaps uniform, while a string line across the tops can prevent the fence from gradually rising or falling from one pale to the next. Because this is open fencing, reducing the gaps changes the appearance but does not turn it into the same kind of solid screen as a closeboard panel.
Loose pales are useful for irregular run lengths and local repairs because only the required pieces need to be cut or replaced.
