Each sleeper measures 100 x 200mm x 2.4m and is made from pressure-treated softwood. The full length can be useful for long continuous sections, but our product guidance also specifically allows the sleeper to be cut for corners, returns and smaller features.
Plan the complete layout before cutting so the required lengths and joint positions are established first. This makes better use of the original 2.4m timber and helps avoid creating unnecessary short offcuts.
Cutting through a pressure-treated sleeper exposes fresh timber fibres at the new end. That cut surface should be treated with a suitable end-grain preservative before the timber is installed.
