This 3.0m x 150mm wooden gravel board is the longest timber gravel board in this range, giving more continuous material for site-built fencing and reducing the need for short joins along larger runs. It is 22mm thick, pressure treated and finished brown for use with compatible timber fencing components.
A gravel board is positioned along the bottom of the fence so the main fencing above is not sitting directly against soil. This separation is useful on traditional timber boundaries because the lowest part of a fence receives repeated moisture, mud splash and contact from garden maintenance. Using a separate gravel board places that exposure onto a component that can be changed without rebuilding the whole fence.
The 3.0m length makes most sense where the fence is constructed from posts, rails and individual boards rather than pre-made 1.83m panels. It provides plenty of material for non-standard bay widths and can be cut to suit the actual post spacing. For a traditional closeboard build, it can be combined with suitable feather edge boards and structural fencing timber.
Longer timber needs careful setting out. Check the post positions before cutting, support the board while fixing and keep its top edge straight along the run. With wooden fence posts, use fixings intended for exterior timber. If the board is shortened, treat the newly cut end before it is installed.
