This 2.4m x 150mm wooden gravel board provides a green/natural pressure-treated base for site-built timber fencing. Unlike a 1.83m board intended around standard panel bays, the 2.4m length gives more freedom when posts and rails are being set out to suit the particular run.
The board measures 150mm high and 22mm thick and is positioned below the main fencing timber. Its job is to keep the lower edge of the fence away from soil and to take much of the damp, splashback and garden wear that would otherwise affect the fencing above. Because it is a separate timber component, it can also be replaced independently if the base of the fence eventually suffers damage.
The green/natural finish suits fencing where the appearance of freshly treated timber is preferred. It can be combined with suitable rails, wooden fence posts and individual feather edge boards when constructing a traditional timber boundary from separate components.
A 2.4m gravel board can be cut down to match the actual bay width, which is useful on bespoke runs and stepped fencing. Measure first, cut once and treat any newly exposed end grain before the board is fixed. On sloping gardens, keeping each gravel board straight and stepping the fence at planned points generally produces a tidier result than attempting to angle the board with the ground.
Timber is the more adaptable option where cutting on site is likely to be necessary. Where the bottom of the fence is subject to persistent moisture, heavy impact or frequent contact with garden equipment, it is also worth comparing the wider gravel boards range before choosing the material.
