This 2.4m x 150mm wooden gravel board is intended for timber fencing where the run is being built from individual components rather than around a standard 1.83m fence panel. Its longer 2.4m format, 150mm height and 22mm thickness make it useful beneath site-built fencing where the gravel board can be cut to suit the post spacing and layout on site.
The board sits at the bottom of the fence and separates the main fencing timber from damp soil and repeated rain splashback. This is particularly useful with traditional closeboard construction, where replacing a sacrificial lower board is considerably simpler than dealing with moisture damage across the vertical fencing boards themselves.
Pressure treated and finished brown, this version coordinates well with brown-treated posts, rails and feather edge boards. The 2.4m length gives more flexibility than a standard panel-width gravel board because it can be cut around the actual spacing of the timber structure rather than forcing the fence into predetermined 1.83m bays.
When installing with wooden fence posts, measure the opening before cutting and use suitable exterior fixings. The upper edge of the board should be kept straight because it forms the visual base line beneath the fencing above. Where the site slopes, decide where the fence will step before cutting the gravel boards so that each change in level looks deliberate.
