The 1.83m x 45x16mm Fence Capping - Pressure Treated Brown is a 1.83m-long finishing timber for the top edge of a fence panel or suitable timber fencing section. Its 45 x 16mm profile provides a defined upper line and covers the exposed top of the panel, which is why capping is normally fitted after the main fence structure is already secure.
Capping is a finishing component rather than a structural rail. It should not be used to compensate for a loose or damaged panel. First make sure the fencing is sound, then measure the actual top edge and cut the 1.83m length where necessary. Keeping the capping straight from bay to bay makes a noticeable difference to the finished appearance of a longer run.
The brown pressure-treated finish gives new timber a darker, warmer starting colour while providing preservative protection for exterior use. It is not a paint coating, so grain, knots and treatment shade can vary naturally and the colour will weather after installation.
Use exterior-grade fixings suitable for treated timber and position them so the capping is held securely without splitting the relatively slim 16mm section. Where several pieces meet, plan the joints around posts or other supported points rather than leaving short, poorly supported offcuts at the ends of bays.
This brown version is intended to coordinate with darker treated fencing. Other capping options are available in the panel capping range. If the existing panel itself needs replacement rather than simply a finished top edge, compare the wider fence panels range, including traditional closeboard fence panels where appropriate.
