No. They have different sections, profiles and intended roles. A fence panel backrail is 75 x 32mm, an MOT rail is 87 x 38mm, and our cant rail has a purpose-designed angled 125 x 47mm 2EX profile.
No. These rails should not be treated as interchangeable simply because all three can appear within fencing or outdoor timber work.
Our fence panel backrail is a 1.83m-long rectangular 75 x 32mm rail. It is intended to sit behind the visible boards of a compatible fence panel and provide horizontal fixing points.
An MOT rail is also rectangular, but uses a different 87 x 38mm section. Our 2.4m and 3.6m MOT rails are supplied for compatible fencing, repairs and outdoor timber framework. The product guidance specifically says an MOT rail should not be assumed interchangeable with a profiled cant rail or panel backrail.
A 125 x 47mm 2EX cant rail is different again. Its angled profile is purpose-designed for the horizontal framework behind vertically fitted overlapping feather edge boards.
For repairs, match the existing rail section and profile rather than choosing by length alone. Browse square rails for rectangular rail products and cant rails for traditional feather edge construction.
