Yes. A single damaged picket pale can be replaced without changing an otherwise serviceable fence, provided the horizontal rails are still sound enough to accept the new fixings.
Our loose picket pales use a 75 x 19mm timber section and are available in 0.9m and 1.2m lengths, with both point-top and round-top profiles. That makes it possible to match the main dimensions and shape of an existing East Coast Fencing picket run rather than replacing a complete section because one pale has failed.
Check all three details before ordering: the pale length, the 75 x 19mm section and the top profile. A point-top replacement in the middle of a round-top run will be immediately noticeable even if the dimensions below the head are the same. Treatment colour should also be considered if the surrounding fence is green/natural or brown.
For example, our 1.2m x 75 x 19mm point-top picket pale can be used for suitable new fencing or individual repairs. Remove the damaged pale carefully so the backrails are not unnecessarily split or weakened, then position the new one to reproduce the existing gap and top line.
If the rails themselves are decayed or several pales have failed, inspect the whole section before carrying out repeated individual repairs. A complete picket fence panel may be more appropriate where the supporting structure is no longer sound.
