Is a 2.1m feather edge board stronger than a shorter feather edge board?

Quick Answer

Not simply because it is longer. Our 2.1m feather edge board uses the same 125 x 22mm 2EX tapered profile as the shorter lengths; the extra length is for projects that genuinely need a longer vertical board.

No. The 2.1m Feather Edge Board should not be chosen simply because a longer board sounds stronger.

It uses the same 125 x 22mm 2EX tapered profile as the shorter boards in our feather edge board range. The distinguishing specification is its 2.1m length, not a different heavier-duty board section.

The extra length is useful for bespoke or replacement work where the fence genuinely needs a longer vertical board, or where enough material is required to trim a board to a particular non-standard finished height. Compared with a standard 1.8m board, the 2.1m version provides an additional 300mm of material.

If a 1.8m board already matches the required construction, choosing 2.1m normally means cutting away that additional length without changing the basic feather edge profile or overlapping construction method.

Board length should therefore be selected from the fence being built or repaired. A longer feather edge board is a dimensional option for a different finished height or bespoke requirement, rather than a separate strength grade.
