The Perry 300mm Traditional Door Drop Bolt is a single sliding bolt for holding a timber gate or outdoor door in its closed position. The 300mm length gives a useful amount of travel for a gate that needs a positive secondary fastening, particularly where a simple latch alone does not control the bottom of the gate leaf.
A drop bolt is normally fitted vertically to the gate and operated by sliding the bolt down into a suitable receiver or prepared position below. This makes it especially useful on gates that can move in the wind or on paired gates where one leaf needs to be held still while the other is opened. It complements rather than replaces the hinges and everyday latch used to operate the gate. See our garden gate furniture for the other components commonly used around a timber gate.
Before fitting, close the gate in its intended position and mark where the bolt naturally meets the surface below. Correct alignment matters: a receiver that is too far to one side can make the bolt awkward to operate and may pull the gate out of line. The mounting position should also leave enough timber around the fixings for a secure installation.
This is a 300mm traditional-pattern bolt manufactured by Perry. It is a practical choice for timber garden gates and similar outdoor doors where a separate drop fastening is required. For other latches, bolts and gate fittings, browse the wider ironmongery range.
