The Green 1.75m x 0.9m Fully Framed Premium Feather Edge Garden Gate is a tall, solid timber gate for side passages, garden entrances and other pedestrian access points where a good level of screening is required. It is manufactured by East Coast Fencing and measures 1.75m high by 900mm wide. The overlapping feather edge face gives it the familiar appearance of traditional closeboard fencing and makes it better suited to privacy-led boundaries than an open picket gate.
Its fully framed construction uses 100 x 50mm rebated and morticed stiles with three 88 x 32mm horizontal rails. The rails support the spruce feather edge boards across the height of the gate rather than leaving the cladding reliant on only a top and bottom fixing point. This construction detail is worth considering when comparing gates, particularly for a taller 1.75m design that will be opened and closed regularly.
The timber has a green/natural treatment finish and is pressure treated for outdoor use. The treatment helps protect the wood against rot, fungal decay and insect attack. The green/natural colour also makes this gate straightforward to coordinate with similarly treated fencing, including site-built boundaries using feather edge boards. Plan the opening before setting the posts. The gate itself is 900mm wide, but the finished gap needs to allow for hinges, latch hardware and operating clearance. That allowance varies with the chosen fittings, so the post spacing should be based on the complete gate installation rather than the nominal gate width alone. Tall solid timber gates also need adequately supported gate posts installed upright so the gate can hang square.
This is the better style where a closed timber face and traditional feather edge appearance are priorities. If you want to retain a view through the boundary, a picket gate will be more appropriate. The gate does not include a universal fitting method for every site, so choose hinges and a latch to suit the posts and required opening direction.
