The Brown 1.75m x 0.9m Fully Framed Premium Feather Edge Garden Gate is a tall timber pedestrian gate designed for entrances where privacy and a solid traditional appearance are more important than an open view through the boundary. Manufactured by East Coast Fencing, it is 1.75m high and 900mm wide and uses overlapping feather edge boards within a fully framed structure, making it a natural companion to traditional closeboard and feather edge fencing.
The construction is more substantial than a simple ledged garden gate. The frame uses 100 x 50mm rebated and morticed stiles, supported by three 88 x 32mm horizontal rails. These rails provide fixing support across the height of the gate for the spruce feather edge cladding. The boards overlap to form a largely closed timber face, which is useful for side entrances and garden access points where you do not want the clear sight lines associated with a picket gate.
The timber is pressure treated brown for exterior use. This treatment helps protect against rot, fungal decay and insect attack, while the brown treatment colour coordinates with brown-treated fencing timber. Customers building a matching boundary can compare our feather edge gates and feather edge boards when planning the surrounding fence.
At 900mm wide, the gate is intended for pedestrian access rather than vehicle access. Do not set the posts exactly 900mm apart without first allowing for the hinges, latch and the clearance needed for the gate to open and close freely. The finished opening depends on the hardware selected. A tall solid gate also places more leverage on its supports than a low open picket gate, so use suitably positioned gate posts and make sure they are installed plumb before hanging the gate.
The feather edge face provides considerably more screening than open-boarded picket designs, but natural timber can still move slightly as moisture conditions change. Correct installation, suitable clearances and properly selected hinges all matter to how the gate operates over time. Browse our garden gate furniture for the hinges, latches and fittings needed to complete the installation.
