4WW means four-way weathered. The top of the timber post is cut into four sloping faces to form a pyramid profile rather than leaving a flat top.
4WW means four-way weathered. On our gate posts, it describes the shape of the top of the post rather than the post size or treatment.
A four-way-weathered top has four sloping faces that meet to form a pyramid profile. This removes the flat horizontal end-grain surface from the top and encourages rainwater to run away while also giving the post a finished appearance.
For example, our 3.0m 4WW pyramid-top gate post has a 150 x 150mm square timber section and is pressure treated for exterior use. The 4WW part of the product name refers specifically to the four-sided weathered top.
This distinction is useful when reading the specification because length, section size, treatment colour and top profile describe different parts of the product. A post can therefore be identified as 3.0m long, 150mm square and four-way weathered without those terms referring to the same measurement.
