These John George 5.0 x 50mm Impact Professional Wood Screws are general-purpose timber fixings supplied in a tub of 600. At 50mm long, they are the shortest of the 5.0mm ZYP screw sizes in this range and are useful where a 75mm or 100mm screw would be unnecessarily long for the timber being joined.
They are manufactured from hardened steel with a zinc and yellow passivated finish. The design includes a Pozi recess, ribbed double countersunk head, milling shank, 30mm thread and Type 17 point. These features are intended to help the screw start cleanly, clear timber as it is driven and finish with the head seated into the surface.
Choose the 50mm length by checking both pieces of timber, not simply by matching the screw to a general project type. The screw needs enough penetration into the receiving timber to hold the joint, but it should not break through where the reverse face needs to remain clean. These are useful fixings for many fencing repairs and timber assemblies, with longer alternatives available in our screws, fixings and fasteners range.
When fixing close to an end or edge, or working with dry timber that is prone to splitting, a pilot hole can still be worthwhile even though the point is designed for fast starting. Keep the driver square to the Pozi recess and stop once the countersunk head is seated rather than continuing to overdrive it. The tub contains 600 screws and three driver bits, making this pack suitable where a large quantity of repeated fixings is required in fencing timber and other woodwork.
