No. Fence topper trellis is an open timber product designed to add height, decoration and partial screening above a fence rather than create a completely solid privacy barrier.
The amount of screening depends on the trellis pattern. Our privacy square trellis uses approximately 50mm square openings, making it noticeably closer than traditional square trellis, which has approximately 100mm openings. Both are manufactured by East Coast Fencing from pressure-treated 16 x 38mm rough-sawn trellis battens.
Horizontal slatted trellis provides another type of filtered screening. Its battens run horizontally rather than forming square openings, but deliberate gaps remain between the timber so light and air can still pass through.
Increasing the topper height gives a larger area of screening, but it does not change the basic open construction. A 600mm privacy trellis topper therefore provides substantially more screened area than a 300mm version while still remaining trellis rather than a solid panel.
If completely closing the view is the main objective, use a suitable solid fence panel for the required part of the boundary rather than expecting an open trellis topper to provide full privacy.
