Traditional Trellis

Traditional Trellis

Traditional trellis panels provide a simple, practical way to add structure, light screening and support for climbing plants. Their regular square pattern suits a wide range of gardens and can be used along boundaries, against walls or above existing fencing.

East Coast Fencing manufactures pressure treated traditional square trellis in-house using rough sawn timber battens. All panels are supplied in a standard 1.83m width, with heights from 0.3m to 1.83m and brown or green and natural treated finishes available.

Wooden Square Trellis Panels

Wooden square trellis has a familiar open-grid design that works well in both traditional and modern gardens. It can be fitted between posts as a light boundary, secured against a suitable wall or used to divide patios, paths and planted areas.

The open construction allows daylight and airflow through, helping the garden feel less enclosed than it would with a solid fence panel.

Traditional Trellis for Climbing Plants

The square lattice provides a useful framework for climbing plants such as clematis, honeysuckle and climbing roses. As plants establish, they can add colour, greenery and increasing levels of natural screening.

Lower panels suit containers and smaller planted areas, while taller traditional trellis provides more room for vigorous plants to spread across a wall or garden boundary.

Traditional Trellis Heights

Low 0.3m, 0.45m and 0.6m trellis panels are suitable for adding decorative height above fencing or finishing the top of a low wall. They provide a lighter alternative to increasing the boundary with another solid timber section.

Mid-height 0.9m and 1.2m panels work well around patios, planted borders and internal garden divisions. Taller 1.5m and 1.83m panels provide greater coverage for walls, boundaries and climbing plants.

Traditional Fence Topper Trellis

Low traditional trellis panels can be fitted above existing fencing to add height and decorative detail while allowing plenty of light and air through. The square grid also gives climbing plants a clear structure to grow across.

For more low-level options designed for use above fencing, browse our fence topper trellis. Remember to include the panel, gravel board and trellis when planning the total finished height.

Pressure Treated Traditional Trellis

Our traditional trellis is pressure treated for outdoor use, helping protect the timber against rot and fungal decay. Brown treated panels provide a darker finish, while green or natural treated panels have a lighter timber appearance.

Both finishes will gradually weather outdoors. Variations in grain, knots and colour are normal features of natural timber.

Traditional, Diamond or Privacy Trellis?

Traditional trellis uses a regular square grid and provides an open, balanced finish for plant support, decoration and light garden screening.

Diamond trellis uses a diagonal lattice pattern and offers a more decorative appearance. Privacy square trellis has closer spacing and is better suited to areas where additional screening is required.
