These John George 5.0 x 75mm Impact Professional Wood Screws are a mid-length option between the 50mm and 100mm versions, supplied in a tub of 360. The 75mm length is useful where a 50mm fixing does not provide enough penetration but a 100mm screw would be excessive for the timber section being assembled.
The hardened steel screws have a zinc and yellow passivated finish and use a Pozi recess, ribbed double countersunk head, milling shank and double Type 17 point. This 75mm version has a 40mm thread. The cutting and milling features are intended to make driving into timber more efficient, while the countersunk head allows the fixing to finish neatly into the surface.
Screw selection should be based on the actual timber thicknesses and joint rather than choosing one length for every fencing job. Check the available penetration and make sure the point will not emerge through the finished face. If you need a shorter or longer option for the same project, compare the range of screws, fixings and fasteners before ordering.
The Type 17 point is intended to start without a pilot hole in many timbers, but a pilot hole can still be sensible near board ends, in particularly dry timber or where accurate positioning matters. Drive the screw squarely and avoid burying the head excessively once it has seated. Each tub contains 360 screws and three driver bits, making it a practical quantity for repeated work with fencing timber and other outdoor timber components.
